This course introduces students to the Victorian period through an examination of the ideas and concerns which characterized the period. Emphasis is placed on understanding the social, cultural, and historical contexts in which the writers worked. Writers covered include Arnold, Carlyle, Tennyson, Ruskin, D. Rossetti, C. Rossetti, E.
