This course reviews the psychology of language from the perspectives of sensation, perception, cognition, development, and interpersonal processes. Topics include the origins of human language, brain mechanisms underlying language, the acoustics of speech, the mental processing of words and sentences, the nature of speech production and perception, the nature of grammatical and lexical knowledge, semantics and pragmatics, the social bases of human communication, and language diversity. Three hours a week class, including in class laboratory experience and demonstration. The class is delivered online. with Zoom Students are expected to attend class online, and participate in presentations, discussion, and breakout groups.
