This course examines the nature and definition of social problems, their theoretical explanations, and their interventions. Topics are selected from: alcoholism and drug addiction, crime and violence, poverty, racism, sexism, family problems, aging, health issues, and problems in the workplace. The course will consist of lectures and classroom discussions of particular social problems. Students are encouraged to actively participate and contribute to class discussions.
