This course is an introduction to the basic concepts and principles of microbiology. The structure and function of the major groups -viruses, bacteria, fungi and protozoa-which affect human health, are studied. Topics include the process of disease transmission, immunology, physical and chemical methods of disease prevention and control, as well as major infectious diseases of the body systems. Three hours of lecture and two hours of laboratory per week. Restriction: Students must be registered in the Nursing or Foods and Nutrition Programs or have permission of the Chair.
