This course studies the prevailing currents in American Literature over the course of the Twentieth Century. Students examine a range of literary developments such as modernism, the Harlem Renaissance, the Beat Generation, and postmodernism. Through these movements, American writers responded to an era defined by profound upheaval and cultural transformation, including global economic depression, two world wars, the rise of the nuclear age, and the ensuing counter-cultural revolution. Writers to be studied may include F. Scott Fitzgerld, William Faulkner, Zora Neale Hurston, J.D. Salinger, Don DeLillo, and Toni Morrison. 08-09-2021-08-12-2021 Hybrid Monday, Wednesday, Friday 09:30AM - 10:20AM, SDU Main Bldg, Room 211
