This course offers an introduction of local, regional and national clean technology issues, focused on the statutory and regulatory instruments and associated policies in various jurisdictions within Canada. Students examine the role that various levels of government currently play in an area of provincial jurisdiction and in relation to existing constitutional, administrative and regulatory frameworks that exist both domestically and internationally. Regulatory bodies and regulatory processes in different provincial jurisdictions are also explored across several energy sources including natural gas, nuclear, hydro, wind and solar. Policy instruments being utilized which assist in net-zero transitions and promotion of cleaner energy sources are also introduced and discussed.
