Your identity -  including your gender, race, ethnicity and culture - can influence how students relate to you as well as how they view themselves and their abilities. Research shows that some identity groups are viewed as different enough to create increased challenges for them in teaching and learning. In this learning space you will be asked to define your identity, consider the impact of that identity on students and discuss ways to handle identity-related challenges in the classroom.

Through participation in this learning space,  you will be able to:

  • Examine how their personal and professional identities influence their teaching practices, learning environments, and interactions with students.

  • Develop confidence in drawing upon their identities as sources of authenticity, resilience, and professional growth.

  • Identify and apply strategies that leverage their identities to foster meaningful learning relationships and navigate identity-related opportunities and challenges in the classroom.

This course is part of the Professional Growth, Development and Identity Domain.
