The purpose of this course is to provide an introductory foundation in core concepts and skills of short term psychotherapy work and will include the essential models of brief psychotherapy, including critical issues essential to brief therapy.
Review of brief models of motivational interviewing, cognitive therapy, behaviour therapy, solution focused therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy and dynamic psychotherapy will be included. The role of medication in brief therapy will also be examined. Other modern therapies like internet based brief psychotherapy and Tele Psychiatry will also be covered.
Students’ will role practice brief models and be engaged on skill development in a case-oriented learning style including experiential training. The course will examine the influence of culture and remain sensitive to the unique differences among people while using the various modalities.
The course takes place each Wednesday 1:30pm - 4:20pm at Room 104 Memorial Hall.
