
This survey course in United States history from the colonial period to the Civil War examines the colonisation of North America, the founding of the United States, and the early years of the Republic. Weeks will introduce students to U.S. history, while contextualising the United States’ early decades in relation to global topics of empire, colonialism, enslavement and abolition, republicanism, and revolution. Topics covered include American exceptionalism, the American Revolutionary War, indigenous and Black resistance, continental expansion and early foreign relations, Antebellum culture and society, and the Civil War.
