This course provides an introduction to the theory and practice of psychological assessment with an emphasis on psychometric issues. The major approaches within the process are examined within multiple contexts such as clinical, school, and forensic settings. Students also gain experience in the application of fundamental assessment-related skills such as active listening, interviewing, and test administration. This course considers the place of psychology in the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary context. The curriculum balances topics on interdisciplinary studies in general (text by Repko et al., 2021) with examples of specific interdisciplinary team studies in which psychology plays a role (e.g., articles from a special issue of American Psychology, 2019). Students will learn a framework for an interdisciplinary-studies approach and will gain practice working within interdisciplinary contexts. The course provides a broad context for psychology, complementing knowledge acquired in the student’s degree program. The course also will offer the opportunity for students to link psychology with other fields (e.g., disciplines in which they have minors or electives). They will also learn how knowledge from psychology can benefit interdisciplinary teams. The acquired skills may be useful in contributing to multidisciplinary teams in future employment.

This course will focus on women's development throughout the life span. Topics will include: views of the nature of women, biological influences, the socialization process and its consequences at the individual, interpersonal relationship, and societal levels, as well as recent alternative views of the psychology of women. This course puts into practise the essential elements of a liberal arts education (critical thinking, creative problem solving, and communicating) through a broad range of in-class activities and assignments. Such course work will challenge you to integrate the esoteric elements of liberal arts learning with the practical tools of the trade, such as grammar, cursive writing, editing strategies, and professional writing genres. Five coursework assignments will constitute a formal writing portfolio, which will showcase your versatility as a writer, and your ability to "put arts to work."

This course introduces students to the body of academic thought known as "queer theory" and to the ways it challenges assumptions about sexuality, gender, and other identity categories. This course examines sustainability theory and green technology, beginning with an examination of the historical context for the physical, environmental, technological, economic and political aspects of traditional energy systems and energy transitions.
