Operations and Supply Chain Management: Course Overview
Operations Management (OM) is the core function responsible for designing, operating, and improving the essential tasks and systems required to take a business's various inputs and transform them into higher valued outputs.
In parallel, Supply Chain Management (SCM) encompasses the broader, external environment. It involves the critical processes of sourcing materials, managing inventory, and distributing the resulting high-value outputs to the final customer.
To be effective in either of these fields, a balanced developed of two key skill sets is essential:
Technical Skills: Focusing on analytical abilities, process design, data interpretation, and optimization.
Soft Skills: Focusing on effective communication, leadership, collaborative problem-solving, and adaptability.
This course is specifically designed to combine the principles of Entrepreneurship with its foundational subject, Operations. By integrating these two areas, students will learn to move beyond a narrow, short-term operational viewpoint. Instead, the course will teach you to understand and navigate a business from a comprehensive, long-term strategic view, ensuring that all operations are aligned with a broader, sustainable vision for the company's future. Three hours a week. 12-05-2026-18-06-2026 Lecture Tuesday, Thursday 05:30PM - 08:15PM, McDougall Hall, Room 246
